The Institute provides help for educating and training chemists and scientists in developing countries in order to improve their ability to help protect our environment from hazardous chemicals - safely and efficiently.
A developing country is defined for the Institute's purpose as a country which is listed in the World Bank's country listings by group under the "developing only" category at the World Bank Website.
Organizations in, or working with, countries that meet the definitions of this World Bank category may apply to ECSEI for assistance. To begin this process an organization simply provides a request using a simple form from the link below. The form is e-mailed to ECSEI and one of the directors will promptly reply.
After assessing the needs of an applicant the Institute will confer with the Board of Directors and a wide network of professionals in the disciplines of Environmental Chemistry and Chemical Laboratory Safety to develop workshops and training courses that are appropriate for the country's needs. The applicant is kept in constant contact as the search for technical content, potential instructors, and potential sources of funding are developed. Once the training program content has been finalized, and funding has been approved, then the details of when and where to implement the training are completed.
As stated in the Objectives of ECESI , help may be provided to an applicant either by presenting technical instruction in the developing country or, conversely, by helping to bring scientists to the United States or another developed country so that they may be hosted by selected university, government, or private laboratories in order to directly observe, participate, and learn advanced technology.
