The Environmental & Chemical Safety Educational Institute received two awards in August 2007:
- The Green Chemistry Institute awarded ECSEI a $4,700 grant for “Implementing Green Analytical Methodology in Developing / Emerging Nations.” This grant provides seed funding to develop and present a special one day workshop devoted Green Analytical Methodology in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2008. This is in response to a request by the University of Science in Hanoi, Vietnam to help develop and implement a workshop on environmental analysis and laboratory chemical safety. The proposed workshop would be accompanied by a second workshop on Laboratory Chemical Safety. However, there are no travel funds to enable the two workshops to be presented once they are developed. ECSEI is currently submitting proposals for the necessary travel funding.
- The American Chemical Society (ACS) awarded ECSEI the first M.O.R.E. Award (Multidisciplinary Opportunities through Resource Enhancement. This award provides in-kind support to help develop a virtual community and to enhance the Institute’s web site. There is no monetary support with this award. Rather, ACS will work with ECSEI to help establish the goals of the Institute.
